Kokopelli Kennels
is located in south central
Michigan, in rural Hillsdale
County, approximately 15 miles
north of the Indiana and Ohio
state lines.
Our dogs thrive on
plenty of fresh air and sunshine
at our 16 acre rustic country
home. Our dogs also enjoy walking
with us and swimming in the ponds
during the summer months. This
winter they are beginning sledding
and Skijoring.
We spend time
socializing with our puppies as
well as having them socialize with
our other dogs as they are under
roof and fenced, so during feeding
and cleaning they may romp and
play with each other as
well.
Our puppies receive
plenty of love and attention so
when they are placed with their
new owners they become well
adjusted and loving additions to
the family.
We have between 8-15 full time dogs in out breeding program, only producing
approximately 5-8 litters a year. We find this
keeps our facility at a manageable
level and limits the number of
litters we have each year.
KOKOPELLI
Who was
Kokopelli?
The mystical
Anasazi flute player, also known
as fertility, prankster, healer
and storyteller dates back over
3000 years. There are many myths
of the famous Kokopelli. One of
which he translated from village
to village, bring the changing
from winter to spring, melting the
snow and bringing about rain for a
successful harvest. It is also
said the hunch on his back
depicted the sack of seeds and
song he carried. He has been a
source of music making and dancing
and spreading joy. Kokopelli
was special to the
southwestern native
Americans which ties us into

MUSIC
My husband has been
a musician for over 30 years, as a
lead guitarist. I am just learning
the bass and have been playing for
3 years.
We do some local
playing and are in our worship
team at church.
DOGS NAMES
Which all started
from our male malamute Zildjian,
who was also owned originally by a
drummer. Ziljian is a brand name
for cymbals. We decided names
which started with Z would fit
right in.
HISTORIC HILLSDALE
COUNTY
It's recorded
history begins in 1825, when the
Chicago Turnpike, now US12 was
surveyed along the route of the
Saul Trail from Detroit to
Chicago.
Hillsdale county
was inhabited by a friendly band
of Pottawatomie Indians whose
chief was named Baw Beese (now one
of the famous lakes in our area).
I
There were many
settlers tales about the friendly
chief, his tribe and their
helpful, friendly relations with
the white man.
So now you have an
idea how our design (Native
theme), music, Z names and
Kokopelli all tie in with our
dogs.
Just in case you
were wondering ... and if you
weren't, hope you enjoyed learning
anyway! |
